


Groups hail city, DENR watershed protection plan

GROUPS advocating the protection of environment lauded an agreement that will be entered into by the City Government and the environment department, geared towards the protection of the upland watershed areas in Davao City.
The Panaghoy sa Kinaiyahan-Coalition for Mother Earth (Panaghoy) said this development only goes to show that the importance of protecting the upland watershed areas is getting more and more popular.

DAVAO CITY — Coconut farmers from seven villages of Baguio and Calinan Districts are demanding the banning of aerial spraying of pesticides on banana plantations in their villages, blaming this method for the decrease in their yield.
Jun Alcomendras, a councilor in barangay Wangan, said at least 60 percent of the coconut farmers in the village have suffered economic loss after their crop rhino beetles attacked their coconut trees. [READ ON]
